Questions people ask
Where exactly is the Varanasi cricket stadium?
At Ganjari, near Rajatalab, on the Prayagraj side of the city — not in the old city near the ghats. From Cantt station it's roughly 15–18 km by road, so plan it like a short trip out of town, not a walk from your hotel.
When will the Varanasi cricket stadium open?
There's no official opening date yet. Reports from mid-2026 put construction at around 90%, and the original May 2026 deadline has slipped. Most reports now expect it to be ready before IPL 2027, but that isn't confirmed. We update this page the day anything official changes.
When is the first match?
No match has been officially confirmed. You'll see talk of a Ranji Trophy game and WPL 2027 matches in the news, but until BCCI or UPCA announce a fixture, treat it as a possibility, not a plan. We'll update this page the day it's official.
How do I buy tickets?
You can't yet — nothing is on sale. When tickets open, they'll be sold only through the platform BCCI or UPCA names, and we'll link to it on our tickets page. We never sell tickets. If anyone is offering tickets for this stadium right now, it's a scam.
How many people can the stadium hold?
About 30,000 spectators, according to news reports.
How much did the stadium cost?
Reports put the cost at roughly ₹330–450 crore. The figures differ between sources, and no final official number has been published.
How do I get there from Cantt station or the airport?
By road — cab, app taxi or auto. It's roughly 15–18 km from Cantt and about 20–25 km from the airport. On match days, leave much earlier than your maps app suggests. Our how-to-reach page has the routes step by step and a leave-by planner.
Can I take the new ropeway to the stadium?
No. The Kashi ropeway is being built between Cantt and Godowlia inside the city; no official opening date has been announced yet. It will be handy for getting from the station to the ghats, but it doesn't go anywhere near Ganjari.
Is there parking at the stadium?
Official match-day parking details haven't been published yet. We'll add them as soon as they are. Until then, plan on a cab or shared transport rather than your own car.
Where should I stay for a match?
Near Cantt or Lanka if you want an easier drive to the stadium; near the ghats if the match is part of a longer Kashi trip and you don't mind a longer ride on match day.
Can I visit the stadium before it opens?
No. It's an active construction site, so the public can't go inside. You can see the floodlights from the highway near Rajatalab.
Is this the official stadium website?
No. This is an independent guide run by locals. We're not connected to BCCI, UPCA, IPL, WPL or any government body. For official announcements, always check their own websites.
